Move In

Here is our kitchen. Maya and Jonah *loved* helping unpack kitchen stuff. They used lots of paper to protect dishes and glass and they said it felt like Christmas. That was fun for the first 4 boxes, until we started running out of room and I had to recycle all my mason jars because it was either that our throw away some dishes. Who needs leaves in the fall when you can play in huge piles of moving paper? At the moment the kitchen progress is temporarily held up until we can get to IKEA over the weekend and find a pantry-type storage thing for food. That just might free up enough room to fit the rest of the dishes and stuff in the cabinets.
And here is our living room. Isn't it spacious and roomy and so nice that everything has its place? I am sure we will get it functional at some point, but for now, we are finding that at every corner something is holding us up. Can't put the beds together because we can't find the tools. Can't move things in the right place because there are too many boxes in the way. Can't get rid of the large throw away items until we wait a few days--have to meter out big garbage so the building doesn't get fined for putting too much out on the street at one time. Can't put the bookshelves up because oh yeah, can't find the tools. Can't find the tools because the boxes don't seem to be labelled correctly. Bikes are in the way and we are waiting for application for bike room from the Board of Directors. Need to sell Thule rack and bike trailer to make space. Movers misspelled words like "puzzles" and "garage". I think that tells me something about their overall competence and why so many things are broken, bent, or otherwise messed up. Like the sand in our Zen sand box? They just put it in a box loose, and of course that box got turned upside down. So now there is sand over everything, including the floor and a bunch of fragiles that were in the box and are now all scratched.
I guess we are making progress. Still grateful to be sleeping and eating in the temporary apartment. Although last night got some really great Chinese takeout and ate it on paper plates. I am sure we can get it all sorted out eventually. In the meantime, if there is anything we have that you want, let us know, because there is a good chance it is going to get thrown away to make room.
:)
