Key West

The day after we arrived here, we hopped in the car for another 7 hour driving day. Our motivation? Brett's dad and stepmother were on a Disney cruise that was landing in Key West for the day. We started out slowly...had a lazy morning excited to be all together again. Then we hit the road. We were so excited to see them in such an exotic locale. The drive was beautiful, the water was turquoise and we felt like we were on an adventure. It never crossed our minds that Key West was too big of a place to guarantee we would just run into them, and it certainly never crossed our minds that their cell phones wouldn't have any reception there.
We arrived, finally, to a hot, humid Key West and even after numerous calls to Stan and Tracy, we couldn't get a hold of them. Somewhat deflated we decided to head to the beach to let the kids run off some of their pent up energy. The beach was magnificent and shallow enough that even little guys could enjoy the water. We never did run into Stan and Tracy. We do have a picture of their ship and after chatting later we realized that we only narrowly missed seeing each other probably several times. We had Key West famous sloppy joes for dinner alongside live music...and while I was devastated to discover that Key West has Dunkin Donuts (and every other chain store known to man), the kids found this to be rather an asset. The drive home was quiet since we stayed late enough to ensure the kids would sleep the whole way.
