Wicked Lucky Little Boy

Most Broadway shows have a cheap route...that is, a way to get around those $100 + a ticket prices. For Wicked, this involves putting your name in a lottery two hours before the show. We have tried this several times, but to no avail. Our progress yesterday in packing up all the Christmas jazz left us feeling productive and like we deserved an afternoon off, so we decided to try again. And guess whose was the first name called?
"Jonah Sposito"
The crowd parted to let the little miniature person through to the winner's circle, and many "oooohhs and aaaahhhhs" could be heard because he looked pretty cute with his little stocking cap on clutching his boy doll Michael...You have to prove you have cash for the $25 tickets and picture I.D., unless you are short enough to have a doll instead.
Since he needed a chaperone, I got to go too. :) We had a splendid time. The lottery winners are all in the front row--considered by full -price viewers to be too close, but actually it was magnificent--we could see into the orchestra pit below the stage, and while there were a couple small things that were a little hard to see from so close up there were many times where we were only a couple feet from the performers, and overall it was a terrific place to be.
Jonah was thrilled and really enjoyed the show. We have talked a lot about it the past year since he sees the billboards everywhere and knows the Wizard of Oz story. So he kind of knew the plot, although he really wanted to classify people as "good" or "bad" and it was a hard concept for his little brain to wrap around that there are not always such clear distinctions in life.
Maya had told us earlier that she wasn't in the mood for a show today, and she was cheerful about her fate...She helped Brett pick slacks at Macy's, they grocery shopped and played games. Brett said she was fabulously chatty the whole time, and it was clear to both of us how each kid really thrives on time alone with one adult and not always in each other's shadow. Great solution for us, actually--putting 4 names in gives us better odds in the lottery, we don't pay childcare and the kids really love the shows. So this may be something we try to do more of this year.
Not much else to report from the weekend except a brief but bizarre stomach bug that Brett and I seemed to have--it only was a problem in the middle of the night for each of us for about 1/2 hour...thank goodness, if it was any longer I would have preferred to be put out of my misery by any means available.
Also Brett and the kids visited the Met for the first time for a kids art class--he said it was excellent.
Maybe what caused our stomach issues is the fact that we are eating pounds of dog hair. Banchi seems to be confused about what time of year it is. Despite brushings at least once a day he is shedding like crazy. He is also really needy, or at least itchy, and rubs his hairy little self all over me while trying to gaze deeply into my eyes. Fine, but then I, the food preparer, am covered with dog hair, always, all the time. Even our dog and hair free bedroom is not immune...ugh. I guess it is good preparation for the spit up that I am going to be covered with before long--maybe I will even feel like that is an improvement.

So, exciting for you and Jonah. I'm glad you got to go and had such a fabulous time.

We are also swimming in dog hair here. Ick!
