Costco, Cameras and Fish

Last time I went to Costco, I made a list of what fit into my backpack...Well this time we had a car, and the bill was well into the triple digits so I will spare you the gory details. Let's just say it took a lot of trips (and embarrassingly, help from our doorman) to get it from the car parked right outside into our apartment. On the way to Costco, we also made an enormous drop to Goodwill and bought our new camera. Brett and kids dropped me off at the camera store while I got it. They drove around the block to find a parking spot and got stuck in parade traffic. We never did figure out what the parade was for--something about naked people and men dressed up as women with cryptic slogans. Anyways, it took them ages to get back to me, and in the mean time I enjoyed the B & H store experience. The place was crazy. First of all, it feels like you are in another country--most of the people who work there have long sidelocks and skullcaps. It was swarming with people, and it was enormous, occupying several floors of a large building. There is a conveyor belt system above your head with little green bins, so when you purchase something and take your receipt to the exit door, somehow, magically, what you bought is hand delivered to you in a bag right before you walk out the door. I spoke with 5 salespeople in different departments (point and shoot, SLR, everything has its own department), and they all really knew their stuff. It is the biggest camera store in the world, and their pricing seems to beat everywhere else we checked. Which is a good thing, because this is the camera we bought. Slight buyer's remorse, in that it is very expensive. I can't seem to let go of my attachment to SLR cameras. There is a slight chance that we will exchange it later this week for something 1/2 the price.
In other news...hmmm. Not much other news. We have officially:
caught lighting bugs in a jar
shopped at Macy's
gotten our 1st set of checks with a NY address on them
seen an enormous cockroach, dead, on the steps
had our first load of groceries delivered
visited our local farmer's market
made our first pie in NY--it was rhubarb--(thought you would be impressed Dad)
The neighbor down the hall has lived in his apartment here since 1977. He fishes all the time (used to sell at the Farmer's Market), and we were admiring his sea bass today, caught on the NJ coast. He says he is bringing us one for dinner tomorrow.
