We lucked out to have a playground right across the street from us. This is a view from the top of the hill looking down into it. It is gorgeous. Brand new. Four circular areas, soft mats throughout--water fountain for summertime in the center. Climbing structures, tire swings, spinning things, sand box. Today while walking Banchi we saw a bunch of dressed-up people, so we went to ask what was going on and they were having a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the playground. It must have been completed just before we moved here. The opening was great--they had quite a spread--coffee, bagels, croissants, fruit salad. Maya and Jonah had their photos taken (Are they going to be famous?? Will let you know if that happens) and it was fun to listen to some things from the Central Park Conservancy. There are 21 playgrounds in Central Park, and one by one they are fixing them up to be modern and fun and make use of the beautiful natural surroundings. The kids enjoyed the actual ribbon cutting and saved a piece of the ribbon for scrapbooks.
This is the view down the steps directly across from our building. It is a steep draw surrounded by lush trees and bushes. Nice that it drops down so far--it feels like you are a lot farther away from the traffic then you really are. This is where we walk Banchi, and where we see raccoons almost every night.
Another view of the playground from down below. The street you can see in the distance is 110th Street, the northernmost boundary of Central Park.
The back drop of the playground are these beautiful rocks. The first photo in this series was taken from the top of these rocks looking down. This one is from the center of the playground looking up.
Maya and Jonah this morning. Jonah is being Peter from the movie Heidi. That is why he has a stick--Peter is a goat herder. To my knowledge, Peter didn't have a shirt about pirates, but Jonah does.
