Honey, Where is my Super Suit?

Here is Brett in his new Super Suit. It is really a wet suit and a helmet. He is about to jump in to do some diving. One of our family's favorite movie lines is from The Incredibles when Frozone is looking for his suit so he can go out and get some bad guys...I guess you have to have seen it.

Anyways, the guy standing behind Brett is one of his co-workers--there is usually a supervisor, diver and tender on each dive, and they take turns to spread out the diving since it is pretty hard work. They have two teams going every day since this is such a large project. As you can see, there is a lot of equipment involved. Brett has tools in both hands and a light attached to the top of his helmet.

On some pilings they have to knock off marine growth (oysters, barnacles etc.) with a hammer. They also take measurements and report on the condition of all the piers. The island is surrounded by a wharf, which is a platform built out from the shore so large boats can dock in deep water without running aground. The divers go underneath the island so they can inspect the piers supporting the wharf underneath.
